Notes for Soloists is Cia Rinne’s new poetry book. Cia is a poet as well as a writer. The book is a follow-up to Rinne’s translinguistic and verbivocovisual project that began with the Zaroum, the book she published in 2001.
With roots in continental, concrete and visual typewriter poetry and modernistic book art, Rinne explores (in a playful, tactile, and unruly manner) the sonorous and visual particle-constellations in the physical space of the book spread. In microscopic examinations of idioms and clichés, philosophical reflections and wordplay, by means of minimal language and typographical shifts, Rinne produces original mutations in a space where languages such as English, French, German, Italian constantly cross over in algorithmic processes, interweave, collide and are transmutated.
It is impossible to say which language the book is written in. It might be well be zaum – the Russian Futurists’ transrational language – or simply Rinne’s own zaroum.

Cia Rinne was born in Gothenburg in 1973. She grew up in Western Germany, and lived in Finland for 13 years before moving to Denmark in 2007. Notes for Soloists is Cia Rinne’s second poetry book. Rinne has also created the digital poetry work archives zaroum (2008) for the Danish poetry site afsnitp.dk, and has written documentary texts. Cia Rinne and Danish photographer Joakim Eskildsen have worked on a documentary project focusing on the life and predicament of the Roma in seven different countries. The project resulted in the celebrated book The Roma Journeys (2007).
